In the Spotlight this week is DUKE CITY DOCFEST, an international documentary festival offering Albuquerque, New Mexico filmgoers five days packed with free artistic expression through non-fiction works.
Admission to all Docfest screenings will be free to the public, and instead suggested donations will be offered to the Festival's partner charities. Duke City Docfest also puts a twist on the selection process, involving the local industry as much as possible. Its selection committee is comprised of a diverse collection of industry players from the Albuquerque film community, including directors, critics, actors, documentarians, broadcasters, film professors, composers, and business leaders. What's more, all submitted docs are reviewed by each member of the selection committee.
Juried awards will be presented in the following categories: Best Documentary Feature, Best Documentary Short, Best Director, Best International Documentary, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Original Composition, Best Student Film, and Best of New Mexico, as well as a Freedom of Speech Award and a Human Rights Award.
