New Mexico Film Office Announces NM Filmmakers Showcase Winning Films Tour 2010
SANTA FE—Lisa Strout, Director of the New Mexico Film Office and Trish Lopez, NM Filmmakers Program Director, today announced the fourth annual New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase Winning Films Tour to begin this summer. The six winning films from this year’s New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase will be shown in local theatres in Carlsbad, Ruidoso, Socorro, Grants, Las Cruces and Valencia County as part of an annual event to present the winning films around the state. Each showcase is open to all New Mexicans at no cost and will offer question and answer discussions with the audiences.
The New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase is an annual four-day event which takes place in May of each year at the Guild Cinema in Albuquerque. It was initiated by Governor Richardson as a way to give local writers and directors the opportunity to submit their original films and have them screened for the public for free. In addition to partnering with local community theatres around the state to provide these screenings, the New Mexico Film Office has joined with Encantada Television, Las Cruces Channel 98 and Channel 6 "Canal Seis" in Espanola to broadcast the winning films over the summer. The total running time for all winning films to be presented is three hours plus time allotted for Q&A. The 2010 winning films to be presented are:
1.) Best Comedy: Delivery Date by Matt Page (Santa Fe)
2.) Best Documentary: Genetic Chile by Chris Dudley (Albuquerque)
3.) Best Drama Feature: Freeing Joshua by Freedom A. Hopkins (Albuquerque)
4.) Best Drama Short: Red Mesa by Ilana Lapid (Las Cruces)
5.) Best Horror/Sci-Fi: Dissident by Jeremy Orr (Farmington)
6.) Best Wildcard: The Crane by Guy Butrum (Tijeras)
“The Showcase Tour is a great opportunity for New Mexicans around the state to see the vast creative talent of local filmmakers each year,” said Trish Lopez. “This initiative continues to provide a unique platform for locals to connect with very talented filmmakers who live right here at home.”
